David Eason
This beautiful abstract work of art reimagines the capital in hand-gilded Dutch Gold leaf to create an egalitarian vision of the sacredness of the city.
Since 2010, the London-based artist has created works inspired by both organic and man-made patterns in cartography. Drawing on a background in Fine Art and graphic design, Eason explores maps as a form of art-as-documentation, using precious metals and complementary colours to highlight the sanctity and diversity of landscapes. Reflecting social and historical themes, his interpretation of Charles Booth’s 1889 map of London is reimagined here in gold.
Eason’s works, exhibited and known worldwide, are a meticulous fusion of cartography and art, presenting iconic landscapes in shimmering precious metals.
Works have previously been displayed in The Barbican, Hereford Cathedral and The Royal Academy.
